The India Couture Week was a collaboration of design aesthetics and Indian treasures, with a new-age interpretation by India’s most renowned couturiers. As fashion seamlessly blended with Bollywood, Jabong.com brings you a round-up of the best looks presented by the country’s most celebrated designers.
Sabyasachi, known for mixing splendor with art in his creations, gave the fashion extravaganza a bright beginning in the opening show. In his innovative fashion, he recreated the interior of a vintage luxury railway train bound for Ferozabad, complete with passengers, sleeping berths and a dining carriage. The line was subtle, subdued and elegant, which is what the renowned designer is well-known for. The exquisite collection consisted of tulles, embellished poplin kurtas, Katha reinforced banarasi bandghalas, and a generous spread of crystals, juxtaposed with shades of soft pinks, creams, mints and a bright pop of red. The vintage-meets-hipster print gave a Parisian feel to the collection.
Varun Bahl presented ‘Indian Moderne’ with his latest collection to couture wear using sheer panels, ruffles and soft delicate shades of mustards mixed with greys. His range included anarkalis, lehengas, saris ideal for cocktail and party wear, with sharp silhouettes with mesh sleeves, linear cuts and fitted dresses. The monotone outfits detailed with soft 3d ruffles, cutwork embroidery with hits of zardori, were traditional to the core.
Manish Arora, who is known for psychedelic colours and kitsch motifs, truly set the benchmark high with his quirky interpretation at the couture week. His collection titled ‘Kaleidoscope’, was inspired from Italian castles, Japanese crafts to royalty. He put together a gamut of shades of gold, geometric and futuristic patterns to enchant the spell-bounded audience, maintaining his famed edgy and global style. The opening dress with a plunging neckline, an embroidered lehenga skirt, and ensembles of Japanese craft ‘Temari’ stole the show.
Following him was Gaurav Gupta, who took inspiration from the Greek Goddess, Nyx, for his breath-taking collection. Models sashayed down the runway in warm tones of blue, cream, gold and red. The dreamy assortment ranged from one shoulder dresses, cocktail sarees with tulle frills, along with
lehengas, cigarette pants, sheer capes and tops with mesh panels. Emulate the mystical looks with the Jabong online shopping dresses collection. The show-stopper of the show was the ever-graceful Shraddha Kapoor, in a cream and gold embroidered strapless gown, with a long cape and chic structured collar. A sophisticated stop-knot, smoky eyes and nude lips, finished her gorgeous look on the ramp.
It was finally time for the most anticipated designer Manish Malhotra to showcase his couture collection! Titled ‘Portraits’, it captured the essence of a lavish and bling studded nuptial affair, with plenty of heavy zari embroidered bridal ensembles, hand crafted to perfection. Models clad in gold dust ensembles with abundance of mirror and gota embroidery, in a dimly lit ramp set-up. In comparison, the men’s range fared better, with elaborate fusions on fitted bandhgalas and sherwanis, with plain black velvets as well as ornate foliage patterns. A usual in a Malhotra show, Bollywood stars like Huma Qureshi, Urmila Matondkar, Aditya Roy Kapoor and Alia Bhatt walked the ramp for him.
Dusky beauties Bipasha Basu and Chitrangada Singh ensured a fitting finale to the haute couture week. It was a grand spectacle of Hollywood glamour with Chitrangada sashaying down the ramp as Marilyn Monroe to the tunes of the famous song, ‘Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend.’ Donning a Gauri & Nainika one-shoulder gown, with a glittering diamond choker necklace and chunky diamond bracelets, the diva looked absolutely resplendent. It was a glittering finish with black sequined gowns, blingy diamond necklaces, emerald and ruby-studded earrings, along with elaborate gold chokers.

Alia Bhatt pulls her weight as a true fashion icon during the latest promotions of her upcoming movie ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’ opposite Varun Dhawan. One day she is the girl-next-door, the next, an absolute tomboy, and then she makes an appearance as a high-end catwalk sultry model! No wonder, she is an idol for millions of fans world-wide, and at Jabong! We list some of her impeccable repertoire which proves she is the star to watch out for:(From L-R: At Escobar, At Hard Rock Café, At 98.3 FM radio station, At a press meet in Hyderabad)
With a hectic schedule of back-to-back promotional events, we got to give credit to Ms. Bhatt for pulling off two looks with immense elan! A first appearance at a popular club HRC, in a mesh-panelled Veda Raheja crop-top, paired with leggings and high-tops, she emanates easy elegance. In her next outing, Alia shows why shorts are one of the mainstays this summer! We loved the idea of swapping the leggings, for a pair of printed Zara shorts. After Aamir Khan, it was Alia who brought fedora hats back in vogue. ‘Hats’ off to Alia for this innovative touch!
Maintaining a perfect balance with her casual-sport look, the dimpled beauty mitigated an airy vibe in a Zara fringe kimono, worn over a tank and shorts. With a cuff, side-swept hair and her ever-trusted Adidas sneakers, she scores a complete 10/10 for this!
Alia hits the mark of effortless sophistication in a printed dress by Turquoise & Gold, while addressing a press meet in Hyderabad. A cocktail ring courtesy Futurology, palm-cuff and gladiator sandals, finished out her winning look.
